Last Kiss is the conclusion to Laurelin Paige’s First and Last duet, and I must say I enjoyed it more than the previous book. The story picks up immediately following the jaw-dropping events at the end of First Touch. This book is like angst on steroids. It’s heady, erotic, completely enthralling, and I was hooked from the first chapter.
Audiobook review. I’m not a huge fan of audiobooks. Narrators’ voices can grate on my nerves, my mind wanders so I have to constantly rewind, and the pacing frustrates me. I can read a book in half the time it takes to listen to one, and if I increase the speed the voices sound even more annoying. Color me surprised then that I enjoyed the Beneath This Mask audiobook so much. The story held my interest and the voice actors are phenomenal.
Wow. Sugar Daddy is every bit as steamy as I’ve come to expect from a Sawyer Bennett novel, only edgier. It’s almost like an addictive, well-written X-rated soap opera. You’ve got a super nasty villain, a determined heroine, and a massively likable hero. Throw in a huge mystery, some devious plotting, and a wildly sexy romance, and I was sold.
It’s a fair assessment to say this is a dark book. I don’t read a lot of these types of books so I was hesitant, but it’s not quite as dark as I feared. Baylee is victimized, but the most disturbing things occur in the first half of the book when Baylee is being held captive by her twisted abductor, Gabe.
Midnight Lily started out as a really strong 4.5 star read for me. I loved Holden’s struggle, the mystery surrounding Lily, and the way her love gave him the motivation to heal. Somewhere around the 70% mark though, the story seems to lose its way.
When I finished Marni Mann’s Unblocked Collection, I had this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. It felt like moving away from your best friends—their lives keep going on, but you drift apart and you no longer know what they’ve been up to. Marni Mann has gifted fans with a mini reunion in Wild Aces, but it is a standalone that can easily be enjoyed without reading the other books.
After a disappointing book two I’m happy to say things are back on track with the quality of storytelling. For one thing, this time around Charlie is actually in the book full-time – not as a guest star. The mystery of Silas and Charlie’s recurring memory loss is just as intriguing as ever, and while I still consider it to be a page-turner, the story unfolds at a more languid pace. It’s a welcome break from the Xanax inducing tension in the previous two books. The developing relationship between this version of Silas and Charlie is fun and sweet. I’ve liked Silas from the beginning, and I really adore him in this book.
The book blurb should have the following warning: “You’d better hold on tight because you’re about to embark on one hell of a suspenseful rollercoaster.” Instead, the blurb says this book is, “sexy,” and, “hot.” I think that’s misleading. This isn’t a racy romance novel with a little whodunit thrown in. Yes, there are some romantic aspects that help propel the plot, but He Will Be My Ruin is first and foremost an edgy, hardcore, emotional thriller that kept me guessing until the end.
It’s been a long time since I’ve read a good military romance. Defenseless reminded me how much I enjoy the sub-genre.
Well, that was… provocative? Disturbing? Aggravating? Intriguing? Yes, to all. What a compelling premise. Out of the blue, Emily receives a seemingly benign voicemail from her former best friend, Amber. What’s troubling is that Amber uses a safe word to indicate she’s in serious trouble. Emily tries to track her down only to discover Amber’s missing. Her search leads her to Reeve Sallis, a rich playboy with a dangerous, dubious reputation.
When I initially read the Songs of Perdition series, it only consisted of two books: Kick and Use. It seems like I’ve been waiting forever to find out what happened to Fiona. CD Reiss finally wrote the conclusion, Break, and then combined all three books into one full-length novel: Forbidden. Since I’ve already written reviews for Kick and Use, this review focuses primarily on Break.
Use is the second book in the Songs of Perdition series and although book 1, Kick, made me quite uncomfortable, I was all too willing to hop onboard the CD Reiss train again. I’m so glad I did because this time around was better than the first, and I enjoyed every moment of the fascinating, edgy journey.
