Review: Sempre by J.M. Darhower

Review: Sempre by J.M. Darhower

There are some 500-page books that I can fly through reading and they don’t seem very long at all. Sempre isn’t one of them. It felt very much like it is 528 pages long. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy the story, because I did. The mafia, human trafficking, sacrifice, vengeance, and forbidden young love are themes that kept me interested. However, the plot unfolds extremely slowly and is bogged down with more repetitive details than necessary. At times it seems like the reader is experiencing life in the DeMarco household not just day to day, but hour by hour. The story could be told in much less time and still be impactful.

Blog Tour & Review ♥ EXRATED by Stevie J. Cole

Blog Tour & Review ♥ EXRATED by Stevie J. Cole

I think the cover of EXRATED is misleading because it looks quite serious and erotic. The story is about a hot young porn star so obviously it’s got to be sexy. What the cover doesn’t convey, however, is just how freaking hilarious this book is. It’s basically a rom-com with erotic elements, so you should be prepared for foul language, dirty talking, explicit sex, and lots of tongue-in-cheek humor.

Review ♥ King by T.M. Frazier

Review ♥ King by T.M. Frazier

May 11, 2016 Angela Reviews, Romance

I’ve read mediocre books that I’ve loved and well-written books that I didn’t enjoy. My opinions are completely subjective and influenced by my ever-changing moods on a given day. I know many people loved King and perhaps I just wasn’t in a receptive mood, but this missed the mark for me. I tried so hard to remain interested in the story, but felt an overall sense of detachment. King was a puzzle to me—unfortunately, one that I was fairly ambivalent about solving. He freely admits he’s a bad man. His entire personality is steeped in violence and anger, even though he shows glimpses of tenderness. I was initially intrigued. What bothered me was that I couldn’t understand why King is so intensely attracted to Doe, or why he feels possessive toward his “pup” that he mistreats. He jerks Doe around so often that for the life of me I don’t know how she manages to fall for him. His mixed signals drove me nuts. He’s cruel to her then gentle; angry then loving; he pulls her close one minute and then pushes her away the next.  In the end, I simply didn’t like King enough to care about his pain, his […]

Review ♥ Finley by Ella Frank

Review ♥ Finley by Ella Frank

April 26, 2016 Angela LGBTQ, Reviews, Romance

I devoured Ella Frank’s Temptation series, so when I heard she was coming out with a new M/M series I was excited to jump on the Sunset Cove series train. Finley is the first book and it revolves around Daniel Finley, a lawyer who briefly appeared in the Temptation series. It’s not necessary to read the other series to enjoy this book though.

Review: Sidebarred by Emma Chase

Review: Sidebarred by Emma Chase

April 24, 2016 Angela Reviews, Romantic Comedy

If Romantic Comedy were a land of monarchy, Emma Chase would be firmly seated on the throne. I fell in love with her Tangled series, and Drew Evans became my ultimate book boyfriend. Then along came the Legal Briefs series. The entire series is charming, but I crowned Sustained my Favorite Romantic Comedy of All-Time and—almost impossibly—Drew had to step aside because he proved to be no competition for Jake Becker. Jake, Chelsea, and the six McQuaid nieces and nephews completely stole my heart. Basically, what I’m getting at is if you haven’t read this series, you’re seriously missing out.

Blog Tour, Review, Excerpt & Giveaway ♥ The Player and the Pixie by L.H. Cosway & Penny Reid

Blog Tour, Review, Excerpt & Giveaway ♥ The Player and the Pixie by L.H. Cosway & Penny Reid

My book funk is a thing of the past thanks to L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid! It’s a day after I finished reading this book and I’m still walking around with a stupid grin on my face. True confession #1: I was in the minority of readers who didn’t love The Hooker and the Hermit, so my expectations for The Player and the Pixie weren’t overly high. True confession #2: Although I knew this book is about Ronan’s little sister getting involved with his archenemy/teammate, I didn’t read the synopsis. Combine #1 and #2 and I found myself unexpectedly enjoying the heck out of this sweet Rom-Com.

Review & Giveaway ♥ Dark Notes by Pam Godwin

Review & Giveaway ♥ Dark Notes by Pam Godwin

A dark student-teacher romance is not something you come across often. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve ever read one. I don’t read a lot of dark romances, and student-teacher hookups involving minors make me hesitant. The synopsis for Dark Notes intrigued me, though, and the performing artist in me loved the fact that the book incorporates music. I decided to give it a go, and the payoff was well worth the risk.
