It’s been years since I read Wallbanger. It’s one of my favorite books by Alice Clayton, and I can’t believe my review has been hanging out on Goodreads and I never posted it, or my review for the follow-up, Rusty Nailed, on the blog. I’m correcting this travesty immediately. So, without further ado, I present my review from five years ago!
First of all, hallelujah for a romance involving mature adults! Women don’t cease to be desirable the moment they turn 40. Their sex drive doesn’t just shrivel up and die. Elsie is 42 and just starting to hit her sexual stride. Can I get an Amen? But I digress.
The Change Up was so entertaining! I loved the chemistry between Kinsley and Maddox, as well as the humor that only lifelong friends can share. I really enjoyed it, but I feel the need to give a couple disclaimers.
This sweet read went down nice and easy, which is just what the doctor ordered in these turbulent times. Co-written by Corinne Michaels and Melanie Harlow, Imperfect Match shows what a great pair their make.
Undercover Bromance is an entertaining follow-up to The Bromance Book Club. Mack is the misunderstood single, cocky, and rather annoying nightclub owner who founded the club. This time around, instead of dishing out advice, he’s the one in need of love lessons.
The Bromance Book Club is a romantic comedy about a married couple on the verge of divorce. It’s warm and humorous, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Sarina Bowen and Tanya Eby are back with the latest standalone in their entertaining Man Hands series. Right off the bat I knew Man Cuffed would be a quirky romantic comedy.
44 Chapters About 4 Men is such an original story. A woman in an unsatisfying marriage writes a diary detailing her relationships with former lovers—all in hopes that her husband will read it and up his game. I don’t know whether or not the book is truly semi-autobiographical, but it certainly is entertaining.
So far, 2019 has been a year of underwhelming reads for me. I was stuck in somewhat of a book slump, but thank goodness for Helena Hunting. Handle with Care delivers the kind of entertainment I was craving.
This summer I have been leaning towards low drama, feel-good books to read, and The Guy on the Right fits perfectly in that category. It is a sweet friends to lovers romance that left a smile on my face.
Well, color me disappointed. I have loved, loved, LOVED the Shacking Up series. The books have charmed me, entertained me, and made me double over with laughter. While Making Up is entertaining, when compared to the other books, it doesn’t quite measure up.
Purely in terms of story execution, Best Laid Plans is pretty average. It’s not particularly original and, honestly, it’s predictable. Arden and Gabe are sweet characters and I really liked their bond. However, their denial/blindness, lack of communication, and Arden’s incessant worrying over potentially losing her friend are exhausting. The romantic build-up is nice and slow, and I appreciated the delayed gratification. While the book is fine for a light read, it’s the narration that makes the story most enjoyable.
