From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Driven series.

One Night. That's all it was supposed to be.

Reeling from the sudden loss of her sister, Haddie Montgomery has sworn off relationships. All she wanted from Beckett Daniels was a sexy distraction to help her escape her pain for just a little while....There weren’t supposed to be any strings attached—so why can’t she shake the memory of that unforgettable night from her thoughts? Or the taste of his kiss from her lips?

No matter how hard Haddie tries to forget about him, Becks relentlessly tries to prove that she should start living for today. But she is determined to avoid romantic commitment, and she can always use her ex-boyfriend’s reappearance to help snuff out the slow burn within her that Becks has sparked....

Or will fate force her to realize that this kind of connection doesn’t come along very often and a chance at love is worth the risk?

K. Bromberg has done it again with Slow Burn!

We were introduced to Haddie and Beckett in the Driven trilogy – one of my all-time favorite series – but we finally get to know them in this book. Haddie is carrying around a lot of baggage following the untimely death of her sister. Wanting to forget her grief for one night, she seduces Becks into a one-night, “no strings” hook-up. For Becks though, one night isn’t enough:

“She’s like that first taste of something you can’t have—that priceless sip of Macallan poured neat—and no matter how many times you’re lucky enough to get just a splash more, it’s never enough to get you drunk.”

Bromberg absolutely made me fall in love with Becks. He’s charming, funny, sensitive yet commanding, and sexy as hell. Haddie sees all these qualities but fights her attraction to him because of a secret fear. I won’t give it away but I will say it’s a real fear that affects millions of women everyday.

Rylee and Colton from Driven make a return and are awesome in their roles as supportive best friends. The sarcastic banter between Becks and Colton is back and just as funny as ever!

So why didn’t I give it 5 stars? Haddie. She takes a reasonable fear and makes an irrational decision to push Becks away—repeatedly. Then she decides she wants him again. But then she thinks he could get hurt so rather than let him make his own decisions she pushes him away again. She supposedly lives by a motto that’s repeated throughout the book. “Time is precious. Waste it wisely.”

Haddie wastes lots of time with her whiplash-inducing, asinine martyrdom. It grew tiresome. However, when she finally comes to her senses, the story is very touching.

It should be noted that although this is an extension of the Driven series, it can be read as a standalone and there is no cliffhanger.

About K. Bromberg

K. Bromberg author

New York Times Bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary romance novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines and damaged heroes who we love to hate but can’t help to love.

A mom of three, she plots her novels in between school runs and soccer practices, more often than not with her laptop in tow and her mind scattered in too many different directions.

Since publishing her first book on a whim in 2013, Kristy has sold over one and a half million copies of her books across eighteen different countries and has landed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists over thirty times. Her Driven trilogy (Driven, Fueled, and Crashed) is currently being adapted for film by the streaming platform, Passionflix, with the first movie (Driven) out now.

With her imagination always in overdrive, she is currently scheming, plotting, and swooning over her latest hero. You can find out more about him or chat with Kristy on any of her social media accounts.
