Review: The Five Year Lie by Sarina Bowen
Sarina Bowen has covered almost every square inch of the romance genre, and now she has branched out into the world of mysteries with The Five Year Lie. As a first effort, it’s pretty good.

In the words of Taylor Swift, “It’s me, hi. I’m the problem, it’s me.” My feelings about I Thought of You are a bit all over the place. I think my tepid response is partially due to my inability to focus on the different story angles equally. I’m a mood reader, so perhaps I just wasn’t in the mood. I don’t know, but it’s far from being a bad book.
I wish I could say that I’m able to exercise some self-control in my consumption of Abby Jimenez’s books, but the truth is I gobble them up eagerly, always lying to myself that I’ll read just one more chapter. Just for the Summer is deliciously funny and emotional—two great attributes that work well together for an addictive read.
Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week is an “April Showers” freebie. Rather than list books that feature rain on the cover, I thought it would be fun to spotlight books that made me cry buckets. Therefore, my Top Ten Tuesday topic for this week is Tearjerkers.
One Perfect Couple may not be perfect, but it certainly puts the thrill in thriller. This is one creepy story where everyone’s motives are suspect.
Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is Books on My Spring 2024 TBR. When I look back in July, it should be interesting to see how many books I’ve actually read.
The plot of The Surrogate sounded just messy enough to pique my interest but not so outlandish as to be implausible: dead wife and frozen eggs, grieving husband, in-laws who want a grandchild, and a surrogate who falls for the husband.
Long story short, The Teacher just wasn’t my cup of tea.
Ali Hazelwood, the reigning queen of STEM romances, dips her toes in the paranormal romance waters with Bride. Hazelwood is an auto-buy author for me, so I was especially curious to see how she would handle a genre that is, admittedly, not my favorite.
Liz Tomforde has officially become an auto-buy author for me. I’m loving her Windy City series, which enriches the sports romance genre to a surprising degree. She has tackled issues of mental health, negative body image, and toxic family relationships—all against the backdrop of professional sports. Caught Up now places the spotlight on the challenges of single parenting.
I can’t believe that one of my most favorite series has finally come to an end. *grabs tissues* After 13 books, I’m still as invested as ever in the Like Us characters. As with most endings, Nobody Like Us is bittersweet.
Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is Quick Reads. Sometimes I’m in the mood for a book that I can finish reading in just one sitting. From funny to emotional and from sweet to spicy, here are ten romances under 150 pages that you can read when time is short.
