I bring you good news, cookie dough lovers! There is a safe and tasty way to indulge in your favorite guilty pleasure. All hail Kristen Tomlan, founder of DŌ, the world’s first edible cookie dough store. The New York City shop opened its doors in 2017 and quickly rose to fame. Now Kristen shares her trade secrets in her new cookbook, Hello, Cookie Dough.

Hello, Cookie Dough bookstagram

The cookbook contains over 100 recipes for cookie dough (and brownie batter!) that can be eaten straight from the mixing bowl or enjoyed baked. Almost every recipe is gluten-free. The sheer variety is mind-boggling. Of course, there are traditional cookie recipes such as chocolate chip and peanut butter. You will also find creative confections like Me Want Cookie – a blue chocolate chip cookie dough with pieces of Oreo cookies and baked chocolate chip cookies; DŌ’s signature Cookie Bomb – a cookie cupcake with a delectable surprise in the middle and topped with cookie dough buttercream; Caramel Apple Harvest – an oatmeal cookie with caramel bits, cinnamon chips, and fresh apple pieces; OOO Key Lime Pie – graham cracker crust mixed into a key lime dough; and breakfast dessert treats.

I can honestly say this is the first time I have stayed up late at night reading a cookbook. Kristen tells the history of DŌ’s success with heart and humor, and her wit really shines through when she shares the inspiration behind each recipe. I was fascinated by the science of making cookie dough safe to eat. The cookbook is chock full of helpful tips, and the colorful layout is a feast for the eyes. Hello, Cookie Dough is a welcome addition to my cookbook collection.
