“Never forget that I was your first real kiss.
Never forget that you’ll be my last.
And never stop loving me between all of them.
Never stop, Charlie.
Never forget.”

Silas races against time as more truths unravel, while others twist tighter together. And now, the stakes are higher as Silas’ control slips and others begin to point fingers. Charlie is in trouble and he must be the one to bridge the chasm between their past and their present. Because somewhere between I love yous and Never Nevers and Never Agains, a truth they can't imagine, beckons to be found.

“Where are you, Charlie?”

I’m about to go on a bit of a rant so you have my permission to stop reading my review now. I’ll wait.

I’m getting a bit sick of this trend where authors take a really good concept but rather than write one excellent book they stretch the story out into a series of novellas. As a reader I feel annoyed by having to wait weeks or even months in between releases. I’m super pissed with the amount of money I fork over purchasing each individual book in the series. Don’t even get me started on how manipulated I feel by the cliffhangers that keep me coming back for more like a damned junkie.

Some of these frustrations may unfairly color my opinions of this book. Never Never was originally intended to be two parts and I was fine with that. I read the first book, loved it, 1-clicked the second book. Then they announced there would be a Never Never: Part Three*. What. The. Actual. Fuck?! Well, I drank the Kool-Aid so here I am.

I thought Never Never: Part One was fantastic. It’s heart pounding, fascinating, and it kept me guessing throughout. I was blown away by the fact that it was written by two authors. Tarryn Fisher wrote Charlie’s chapters and Colleen Hoover wrote Silas’ chapters. Their writing styles are seamless and their storytelling is on point.

In Never Never: Part Two Silas races to find Charlie in the 48-hour time period before they both lose their memory again. I wish I could say I loved this book as much as the first one but I it didn’t quite measure up.

The story is still told from both Silas and Charlie’s POVs but the bulk of the narrative belongs to Silas. The authors seem to have lost their consistency this time around and the storytelling feels incredibly disjointed. I’m not sure what the hell Tarryn Fisher was doing when she wrote this. She could have been writing another book and simultaneously texting Charlie’s story with her right hand for all I know. Her chapters are extremely short and choppy. It’s time for lunch. Eat your spaghetti. Take your medicine. Sleep. Next chapter. Dream. Next chapter. Eat. Take more drugs. Sleep. Next chapter. Go to the bathroom. You get the picture. Colleen Hoover is much more successful in telling Silas’ tale.

More of Silas and Charlie’s history is revealed and a few discoveries are made that may be keys to unlocking the mystery surrounding their memory loss. The story is still engrossing and the book is definitely a page-turner. I just wish the authors wrapped everything up in this book.
