Wow. I am blown away by how much I enjoyed this book. I’m an anomaly—one of those readers who was never impressed with Jesse Ward. In fact, he really irritated me in the first two books in the series. Well, he finally won me over big time in With This Man.
Having the majority of the story told from his perspective helped me understand what makes him do all the unreasonable things he’s known for. Given Jesse’s fears and the enormity of his love for his family, his reactions—while still extreme—make more sense. His vulnerability makes him seem more real.
The story picks up 12 years after the previous book, and I really enjoyed seeing the ways in which Jesse and Ava’s relationship have changed as well as stayed the same. I also love the way the progression of the story allows Jesse opportunities to mature.
The book is the full package: quite touching and extremely angsty, but also incredibly funny. It is a definite must-read for fans of this series. Just be prepared for an emotional roller coaster. 3, 2, 1, zero baby!
