Real life definitely slowed down my reading progress this past month, but I’ve read more books and written more reviews than I’ve had time to post here. I admit I’ve been in a bit of a book slump lately, so I need motivation to stay on schedule. Nonetheless, I’m determined to keep my 2017 Reading Goals. Read on to check out the good, bad, and ugly status of my goals, plus a wrap-up of books reviewed on the blog in February.
In Calculated in Death, Eve, Roarke, Peabody and the rest of the gang are back to solve another case—this one involving the murder of a likable accountant. The book gets off to a slow start, primarily due to the story being bogged down with too many similar suspects to keep straight, but things pick up considerably about one quarter of the way through. In fact, I’m pleased to say that although this is the thirty-sixth novel in the In Death series, it manages to sustain a fresh feel.
It’s hard for me to rate Wait for It. Honestly, there’s nothing about this book that’s particularly bad. There’s nothing that makes it stand out either. I suspect my current book funk has colored my opinions. For what it’s worth, here goes.
The Butterfly Project by Emma Scott releases today, and I’ve got an excerpt to whet your appetite. I love her work, so I’m super excited to read this book. Enter the giveaway for an Amazon gift card while you’re here.
Looking for a fun second chance romance? The Hot One has you covered. Tyler and Delaney were two pre-law students who were madly in love when Tyler abruptly and inexplicably dumped her just before graduation. Nearly a decade later and neither has seen or spoken to the other. They haven’t Googled each other or tried to stalk each other on Facebook. We’re talking a cold turkey split.
All hail Queen Emma! I swear, I don’t think Emma Chase is capable of writing a bad book, and Royally Matched was pure joy for me to read from the first page to the last.
I’ve come to one conclusion: Sawyer Bennett is not human. It seems like she adds to her impressive arsenal of work every couple months with books ranging from romantic suspense and erotica to lighthearted contemporary romance. How is that even possible? How, I ask you?! I don’t know, but as long as she keeps cooking up these sweet sports romances with a hint of spice, I’ll keep gobbling them up like candy. Roman was a tasty treat for me.
I fell crazy in love with this book! I don’t read very much M/M, but when I do I’m fond of the gay man falling for the straight guy scenario. There’s just something intriguing about chasing a straight man who is denying his true desires. Such is case in The Spiral Down when the openly gay rock superstar, Henry Alexander, sets his sights on the clearly straight pilot, Evan Roth.
Dark romance may not be at the top of my list of favorite genres, but I’ve read several that I quite enjoyed. Ones with characters I could relate to and relationships that I could ultimately root for even when those relationships were rather twisted. I think maybe I’m just not cut out for this particular style of brutal dark romance.
