Banner and Jared! Sigh. Talk about a power couple. They are both top dogs in the competitive world of sports management. Their chemistry is dynamic and nuclear hot! Here’s a tip. Grab those fans, ladies! I guarantee you will need them. I was fond of Jared, but I absolutely adored Banner for her strengths as well as her weaknesses.
A true feminist, Banner is determined to excel in a largely male driven industry. For all her professional success, Banner struggles with self-doubt in her personal life. In a world where air-brushed, Photoshopped, stick thin models and superstars are held up as the gold standard, women are frequently made to feel inferior. We see Banner struggle with her physical imperfections, and it’s very relatable. Even so, her heart, mind, and determination always make her the sexiest woman in the room.
Jared is a fully developed, complex character. He speaks often about how he’s not a nice guy and doesn’t like people. I felt like his actions show him to be a driven person, but not malicious—except where Banner is concerned. He is singularly focused on having her in his life and won’t hesitate to destroy anyone in his path. There is something kind of sexy about that.
The story is compelling. There is no doubt that Banner and Jared are meant to be together from the very start, but there are many obstacles. I wrestled with some seriously conflicting emotions that tested my sense of right and wrong. I liked that this isn’t a fluffy romance, but it is very sweet.
The addictive plot, depth of the relationships, and stellar writing make Block Shot a very satisfying love story.
