As far as enemies to lovers stories go, my favorite ones are romantic comedies where the animosity between characters generates witty banter and an overall lightheartedness. On the Corner of Love and Hate is more of a contemporary romance, which is fine, but I did miss that humorous factor.
Beautiful Mistake is an overall enjoyable story.
Even with the focus on a loved one’s death, I was oddly engaged with The Last Letter. Unfortunately, the unrelenting tragedies eventually wore me down.
Some Kind of Perfect is one huge epilogue of the combined Addicted/Calloway Sisters series. I’m talking about 664 pages—or 23 hours and 30 minutes, if you’re listening to the audiobook—packed with events that are destined to make fans fall even more in love with the characters.
I have yet to read a book by Taylor Jenkins Reid that I haven’t loved, so I am not surprised that I inhaled Daisy Jones & The Six in one sitting. She manages to take an interesting story and make it exceptional by telling it in an innovative way.
I think I set myself up for disappointment with Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune. I expected an epic Like Water for Chocolate meets The Joy Luck Club tale. What I got was a cute story, but one that failed to hold my interest.
The Bride Test is a solid follow-up to Helen Hoang’s debut smash hit, The Kiss Quotient.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is an epic Hollywood romance that examines what it takes to achieve success on the big screen. I was on the fence about reading historical fiction, but I needn’t have worried. This book is riveting.
L.J. Shen is a master at dishing out seemingly irredeemable characters that you love to hate and serving them up with massive side of angst. Pretty Reckless kicks off the All Saints High series, which is a spinoff of the wickedly addictive Sinners of Saint series. (Side note: Although these series revolve around high school students, they are definitely on the New Adult side.) Defy readers will remember the scandalous affair between Jaime Followhill and Melody Greene. Daria is their daughter.
Kate Stewart wows in this emotional Hollywood tale of love and loss.
I love the sense of camaraderie and shared passion found in sports romances. Sports rom-coms are my go-to for a quick escape, but when I want more substance, I know I can turn to Kennedy Ryan. With Hook Shot, she uses the backdrop of professional basketball once again to deliver another heartfelt romance.
I originally gave this book 3.5 stars, but I upgraded it to 4 stars after sleeping on it, and here’s why. Motion, the first book in the Laws of Physics series, sets an infectious tone of both humor and suspense. The second book, Space, is achingly emotional. Time: Laws of Physics 3, while very enjoyable, is not the gripping conclusion I was anticipating.
