What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. But what didn't happen in Vegas seems to follow them everywhere.
Lola and Oliver like to congratulate themselves on having the good sense to not consummate their drunken Las Vegas wedding. If they’d doubled-down on that mistake, their Just Friends situation might not be half as great as it is now.
... Or so goes the official line.
In reality, Lola’s wanted Oliver since day one—and over time has only fallen harder for his sexy Aussie accent and easygoing ability to take her as she comes. More at home in her studio than in baring herself to people, Lola’s instinctive comfort around Oliver nearly seems too good to be true. So why ruin a good thing?
Even as geek girls fawn over him, Oliver can’t get his mind off what he didn’t do with Lola when he had the chance. He knows what he wants with her now ... and it’s far outside the friend zone. When Lola’s graphic novel starts getting national acclaim—and is then fast-tracked for a major motion picture—Oliver steps up to be there for her whenever she needs him. After all, she’s not the kind of girl who likes all that attention, but maybe she’s the kind who’ll eventually like him.
Sometimes seeing what’s right in front of us takes a great leap of faith. And sometimes a dark wild night in Vegas isn’t just the end of a day, but the beginning of a bright new life...
If it were possible to be in a romantic relationship with a novel, I would marry Dark Wild Night. In fact, I’d happily participate in a ménage à quatre with the entire Wild Seasons series. Does that make me weird? If so, I careth not!
The series follows three post-grad besties. They enjoy one absolutely wild night in Las Vegas with three strangers who happen to be best bros and foreigners. We’ve been treated to Mia/Ansel and Harlow/Finn’s love stories. Now it’s Lola and Oliver’s turn.
Oliver is an Australian comic book owner now living in California, and Lola is a creator and illustrator of comics. She is passionate about two things: her work and Oliver. Oliver is simply passionate about Lola. These two wonderfully co-dependent nerds are the closest of friends who are clearly meant to be more. However, they’ve stuck themselves in the friend zone for various reasons.
Oliver is adorable and more than a little bit naughty. I loved his ability to read Lola’s thoughts and emotions. He always knows just how to patiently support her, even as her career takes off and her insecurities mount. I appreciated Lola’s big heart, flaws, and her unique brand of crazy.
This story is overflowing with affection and chock full of wit, tension, and passion. It’s a pure delight.
I was a Christina Lauren newbie prior to this series, and I really hope this writing duo’s other books are just as good because I freaking adore them. I crave more. More, I tell you! Hold up. I’ve now read all three couples’ love stories. There’s nobody left, right? Well, it turns out that Mia’s anti-romance roommate, London, has her own book. *runs to the library*
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW:
Shayna Thibodeaux voiced the previous audiobooks in the series, and once again her narration is spectacular. She deserves a standing ovation for her delivery, timing, and impeccable Australian accent. Steve West is equally phenomenal with his rich vocal performance. I could listen to him say, “Lola Love,” for days with that sexy Aussie accent. Drool. I love how both narrators distinctively embody the various characters, breathing life into them with an abundance of warmth. I count Shayna and Steve among my favorite narrators.
