I can’t believe it’s time for my Favorite Books of 2022 list already. While this was a challenging year for me personally, it was a great year for books. I continued to branch out into a variety of genres, and I also found myself listening to way more audiobooks. In fact, I typically listen to an audiobook during my commute to work while reading an ebook or paperback when I’m at home. Basically, I’m always reading two books at the same time. It sounds crazy, but as long as the books are different genres or very different plots I can keep them straight in my mind. Here are ten of my favorite books published in 2022, in no particular order.
Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover Reminders of Him is a story about love, forgiveness, and redemption. I could not read this book fast enough, and yet even in the moments when tears threatened and my heart ached, I wanted to slow down and savor every sentence, to sit with all my feelings. It’s the complexity of my emotions—which were frequently conflicted—that pulled me in, while the characters and unique plot kept me 100% absorbed. |
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus It is hard to believe that Lessons in Chemistry is Bonnie Garmus’s debut novel. This thoughtful, emotional, and clever story is easily one of the best books I’ve read this year. The book has been picked up by Apple TV+ to be adapted into a series. The story and its remarkable characters should translate well on screen. |
Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score Could this book be more delightful? And funny! Things We Never Got Over left me with nothing but good vibes and a massive smile. It has a whole lot going on plot-wise, and I have to hand it to the author for not letting the reader get lost in all the various threads she weaves. You’ve got a runaway bride caring for a tween niece she never knew existed, an evil twin, a sexy but grumpy neighbor that she loves to hate, a rivalry between brothers, and a mystery—all set in a small town filled with kooky townspeople. |
Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid Carrie freaking Soto. That’s it. That’s the review. I’ve long been drawn to Taylor Jenkins Reid’s strong female protagonists, but Carrie Soto is simply remarkable. Living inside her mind was an exhilarating experience. Whether or not you’re a tennis fan, I recommend this enthralling saga. |
Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend by Penny Reid Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend knocked my socks off with its unique and highly entertaining take on fake dating and enemies turned lovers scenarios. Penny Reid exceeded my expectations with her stellar writing. The combination of sublime characters, a fun and original plot, and unexpected tenderness create an extremely satisfying reading experience. |
Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez Abby Jimenez has rapidly become an auto-buy author for me. It’s hard to believe she wrote her debut novel just three years ago. I’ve enjoyed every single one of her books, but Part of Your World is one of my favorites. Parts of the story are emotional and enlightening, but there are just as many moments that had me smiling or laughing out loud. |
The Difference Trilogy by Aly Martinez The Difference Trilogy is one truly angst-filled, epic romance. When two survivors of the same horrific plane crash cross paths, there’s an instant connection. After a few adorably awkward encounters and some friendly stalking, I found myself completely wrapped up in their love affair. The story has a major twist which I, famous detector of all twists, did not see coming. |
Nora Goes Off Script by Annabel Monaghan Gobble, gobble, gobble. That’s the sound of me eating up Nora Goes Off Script. I loved everything about this feel-good romance. It is a funny and satisfying story that is sure to brighten your day. This is Monaghan’s debut novel. I can’t wait to see what she writes next. |
Maggie Moves On by Lucy Score Lucy Score is the reigning queen of small town rom coms! Maggie Moves On is the delightful escape I didn’t know I needed. It features a popular YouTuber, a ridiculously hot landscape architect, and a disobedient but adorable dog. The story left me with a ridiculous smile on my face and a lightness in my heart. |
The Lies I Tell by Julie Clark Talk about a dazzling mystery. The Lies I Tell kept me on the edge of my seat, questioning what I believed to be true. It is full of intriguing characters and unpredictable events. It’s one of the most absorbing mysteries I’ve read this year. |
Here’s to a new year of great books! Show us what you’ve got, 2023!
I have Reminders of Him, Lessons in Chemistry and Part of Your world on my list too! I hope you have a Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you as well!!
What a great list! I definitely will be adding several of these to my TBR. My favorite books this year were Maggie Moves On, TWNGO, The Choice by Nora Roberts, and Rewriting the Stars by Claire Kingsley. Happy New Year!
Thanks! It’s been ages since I’ve read a Nora Roberts book, but I like her work.
What a great list of books that you have there. I do think Audiobooks is a life changer and are just bonus books. Looks like you got some good favorites in there. Happy to see that. I do want to try out that Aly Martinez!
Thanks. It took me a while to warm up to audiobooks, but now I love them.
I loved Reid’s, Hoover’s, Jimenez’s, and TJR’s books. I also like Garmus’ writing, but I didn’t finish that book.
I listed to the audio of Lessons in Chemistry. I wonder if that made a difference.
I actually tried listening to it. I loved the audio. It was just not something I was in the mood for at the time.
Reminders of Him and Things We Never Got Over were definitely among favorites of mine, too. Great list!!
