I love the sense of camaraderie and shared passion found in sports romances. Sports rom-coms are my go-to for a quick escape, but when I want more substance, I know I can turn to Kennedy Ryan. With Hook Shot, she uses the backdrop of professional basketball once again to deliver another heartfelt romance.
Kenan is an aging NBA star who is still very much at the top of his game. He is introverted, disciplined, and restrained. He is also knee-deep in the middle of family drama. I think single fathers are super sexy, and Kenan’s devotion to his fourteen-year-old daughter is one of his most attractive traits.
Lotus is Kenan’s opposite in almost every way: young, outgoing, and alluring. She is a breath of fresh air, always oozing confidence and charm. She carries around her own set of heavy baggage, though.
The story started off slow for me, and I was a good quarter of the way into the book before I became hooked. There is a definite sizzle between Lotus and Kenan. Who am I kidding? These two can burn the bedroom down. However, what’s most appealing about this couple—and the story—is the way in which they patiently and selflessly help each other heal deep wounds.
I expected to be caught up in Kenan’s enthusiasm for basketball, but I was pleasantly surprised to be so absorbed in the fashion industry. Fashion is woven into Lotus’s DNA, and through the details of her wardrobe choices, her ever-changing hairstyles, and her passion for working with a famous designer, I gained a deeper connection to her character and to the world of high fashion.
I really enjoyed this emotionally charged and steamy romance.
