ABRAHAM DAVIS—Honest Abe to his friends—IS IN OVER HIS HEAD...
He’s a fixer and a do good-er. The all-knowing, resident "grandfather" on the wrestling team who everyone relies on to fix their problems. His teammates go to him for everything; advice, homework, or when they need a sober driver at three in the morning--whether he likes it or not.
Abe’s current mission is easy: mend his roommates broken heart by helping him find a girlfriend on the LoveU app--without getting caught in the lie...
SKYLAR GABRIEL. IS. OVER. IT.
Over her bad grades. And over dating douchebags. What she wants to know is: where have all the nice guys gone?
She longs for a handsome, sweet, and honest guy who can make her laugh. In one last ditch effort to prove that he exists—Skylar turns to LoveU.
On her worst day, Skylar has no filter (it’s a miracle she hasn’t been ditched mid-date).
On her best, she’s as wholesome, and sweet, as pie.
On Thursday? She matches with Abraham Davis’s roommate.Skylar Gabriel is falling for the wrong guy—she just doesn’t realize it yet.
Why?
BECAUSE ABE DAVIS IS A LIAR.
The Lying Hours is a modern take on Cyrano de Bergerac. I was worried I’d spend the majority of the book just waiting for the main character to be caught in a lie, but it’s not nearly as bad as I feared.
The big douchebag in this book is Abe’s friend JB, who he impersonates. I couldn’t understand why Abe would enable such an unrepentant jerk. JB is not funny or remotely charming, and Abe lost major points with me for refusing to stand up to him. I liked that Skylar knows her worth and doesn’t put up with crap from either guy. Her chemistry with Abe is just ok for me because she’s honestly too good for him.
I’ve been a big fan of the How to Date a Douchebag series. Its hallmarks are laugh-out-loud humor and flawed characters that you grow to love. There is fun banter in this book— albeit a little too much messaging back and forth—but I simply didn’t warm to the characters the way I typically do.
When it comes to audiobooks, you don’t get much better than the narrating duo of Jacob Morgan and Muffy Newtown. They are always so expressive and have perfect comedic timing, so the audiobook is an easy and enjoyable listen.
I think the further we went into the series, the less I enjoyed them 😭
That seems to be a common opinion. LOL!
I think she should have stopped at #3 no matter how much I wanted more of this world. It really peaked with that book for me.
I agree.
