I was so certain I would love this book based on the meet cute alone. The case of mistaken identity on a Valentine’s Day blind date is so witty. I was immediately intrigued by Elena, the sexy librarian, and to a lesser degree, Jack, the NFL quarterback embroiled in scandal.
Loverboy is exactly the light diversion I needed. The co-owner of a cybersecurity agency goes undercover as a barista in a plucky heroine’s pie shop. Pie. Lattes. Mystery. Romance. Sold!
I was pleasantly surprised by this romantic suspense. Unlawful Contact has a story sucked me in almost immediately, and fed me a steady diet of yummy intrigue, danger, and sexiness. The mystery involves an investigative reporter and an escaped convicted killer/decorated Army vet/ex-DEA agent who team up to find his missing sister and uncover some shady drug dealings in the process.
By all accounts, this ought to have been a home run. I have a huge soft spot in my heart for single parent romances, and it is very rare for me to not love a Sarina Bowen book. I’m bummed because while Lies & Lullabies is nice, the book lacks the luster I expected.
Dear Enemy, as the title suggests, is an enemies to lovers story. The romance is of the slow burn variety that I always enjoy.
I was hesitant when I found out about this new series of books penned by various authors and set within Penny Reid’s book universe—-specifically in the Green Valley town that is home to the Winston brothers. I wasn’t sure another author could do justice to the kooky but heartwarming vibe I’d grown to love. Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit if Baking Me Crazy didn’t make me a believer.
Where the Blame Lies is unlike any Mia Sheridan book I’ve read before, and I liked it. I really liked it. There’s enough detail to convey the horror of the victim’s situation, to develop a connection to her and maintain the suspense, but not so gory that it’s unbearably painful to read.
The Birthday List is a story of loss and new beginnings. I can see how some might find it inspirational. When life deals you a devastating blow, it’s easy to wallow in grief. The fact that Poppy is motivated to get back up and push through her pain is wonderful.
Melanie Harlow and debut author David Romanov do a wonderful job blending their writing styles in this touching M/M romance.
This was a perfectly fine read for me. A Secret for a Secret is sweet and sexy and there isn’t anything glaringly wrong. It just didn’t wow me the way some of the other books in the series have.
The Lying Hours is a modern take on Cyrano de Bergerac. I was worried I’d spend the majority of the book just waiting for the main character to be caught in a lie, but it’s not nearly as bad as I feared.
Thrive is a full-length companion novel to the Addicted and Calloway Sisters series. I have a feeling I would have enjoyed it more had I read it in the suggested order. As it is, I skipped this one when I devoured the entire series a year ago, and since I was missing the characters I decided to go back and read this book.
