What I meant to do in Vegas: Let my hair down for once and celebrate winning a medal at my first women’s hockey all-stars competition.
What I actually did: Got senior prom drunk and woke up married to Brooklyn’s star winger, the great Neil Drake.
He’s the heir to a billion dollars, and I barely survived my childhood. Our friendship is based strictly only on hockey, takeout food and smack talk.
And now holy matrimony. Although we both know it can’t last, especially once his evil family gets wind of our Vegas shenanigans…
Contains: Meddling teammates, meddling parents, ugly jewelry and a pretend-kiss that nearly sets the world on fire.
Sarina Bowen continues to expand the Brooklyn pro hockey franchise, and I couldn’t be happier. I am loving the Brooklyn Bombshells women’s team. Shenanigans introduces us to Charli, a Brooklyn Bombshells player. Her story is integrated with one of the stars on the Brooklyn Bruisers men’s team, Neil Drake. It’s like uniting the best of both worlds.
If getting a sober divorce was as easy as getting married in a Vegas drunken haze, where would be the fun? I enjoyed the fallout from Neil and Charli’s crazy night, including the plotting and subterfuge, as well as their teammates’ reactions.
Neil comes from extreme wealth, and while he doesn’t try to hide it, he’s not an arrogant jerk. He’s very protective of Charli and generous with his time and money. The story has just the right amount of Pretty Woman vibes.
Charli is fierce and proud, and I especially enjoyed learning more about the challenges and triumphs of professional women’s hockey through her eyes. She’s had a rough life, and I respected the fact that she doesn’t try to exploit Neil’s kindness.
I didn’t understand Charli’s reluctance to pursue an honest relationship with a nice guy who is clearly interested in her and to whom she’s equally attracted. There’s a vague reference to Neil making a bad first impression on Charli, but I think the story would have benefited from more explanation of their history. Still, I loved their chemistry and hope we get to know more Brooklyn Bombshells in future books.
I listened to the audiobook, and it is perfectly cast. Jason Clarke’s narration is smooth and sultry, while Vanessa Edwin conveys both strength and vulnerability in her delivery. I highly recommend giving it a listen.

I get what you are saying about Charli. She was so in her own head. Neil was such a catch!
Nice review! I love that title!
