Review: The Mixtape by Brittainy Cherry
The Mixtape tugged on every single one of my heartstrings.

The Overdue Life of Amy Byler was a really witty and enjoyable read. As a mom myself, I recognized in Amy Byler the constantly frazzled state that comes from juggling the many needs of your children. I can only imagine how much more difficult it must be as a single parent. I admired how hard-working and resourceful Amy became after being abandoned by her deadbeat ex-husband. She is an expert juggler, and it is easy to see why a large part of her identity comes from being needed by her kids. The need to be needed is a key topic that is addressed in the story. Amy’s two girlfriends are a hoot, pushing her to let loose in New York City and giving her advice throughout the book. Her wicked sense of humor and exploration of the city are highly entertaining. Amy and Daniel, a fellow librarian, make a really cute couple, even if the romance aspect is a little on the bland side. I enjoyed all their dates and geeky book talk. The beginning of each chapter is a little treat featuring funny journal entries written by Amy’s teenage daughter. The Overdue Life of Amy Byler is an amusing book that […]
Christina Hovland is an author who is new to me, but I was drawn to the adorable cover and then the synopsis hooked me. I love it when I take a gamble on an unfamiliar author and it pays off. Rachel, Out of Office is a witty and supremely satisfying contemporary romance.
By all accounts, this ought to have been a home run. I have a huge soft spot in my heart for single parent romances, and it is very rare for me to not love a Sarina Bowen book. I’m bummed because while Lies & Lullabies is nice, the book lacks the luster I expected.
I am constantly impressed by Jewel E. Ann’s versatility as a writer. If you want a mind-bending thriller filled with twists, she’s your gal. She also does contemporary romance really well. However, she does have a tendency to lure you in with humor and sweetness, only to break your heart. Don’t get me wrong. I love her wicked ways because her books are so engrossing and well-written, but I’m always holding my breath, waiting for the other shoe to drop. There’s no need to worry about that with Fortuity. It’s a bewitching romance that is quite simply a joy to read from beginning to end.
Yes! I just struck single parent rom com gold with The Guy on the Left. It is the next book in Kate Stewart’s The Underdogs series and it’s Troy’s story. We first meet Troy in The Guy on the Right, but both books can be read independently.
Down Too Deep showcases J. Daniels’s sentimental side. I can’t seem to get enough of single parent romances lately, and this one is a real treat. Get ready for cuteness overload.
With Perfectly Adequate, Jewel E. Ann takes a timeout from her signature heartbreaking and mind-blowing stories to deliver a lighter romance. Notice that I said lighter because Jewel doesn’t do straight-up rom coms. This is a comedy with a bittersweet edge – a dramedy, if you will.
Even with the focus on a loved one’s death, I was oddly engaged with The Last Letter. Unfortunately, the unrelenting tragedies eventually wore me down.
Trailer Park Heart will whet your appetite for a sweet underdog love story.
Great news! I can finally fit into my old pair of jeans because I laughed my ass off while reading At the Stroke of Midnight. We’re talking tears rolling down my face laughter that lasted throughout the entire book.
Nothing is sweeter than a single parent romance – unless you up the ante by making the single parent a mom of twin toddlers. You’d better brace yourself for cuteness overload in Boy Toy, the third standalone rom-com in the wildly entertaining Man Hands series.
