The first rule of book club: You don't talk about book club.
Nashville Legends second baseman Gavin Scott's marriage is in major league trouble. He’s recently discovered a humiliating secret: his wife Thea has always faked the Big O. When he loses his cool at the revelation, it’s the final straw on their already strained relationship. Thea asks for a divorce, and Gavin realizes he’s let his pride and fear get the better of him.
Welcome to the Bromance Book Club.
Distraught and desperate, Gavin finds help from an unlikely source: a secret romance book club made up of Nashville's top alpha men. With the help of their current read, a steamy Regency titled Courting the Countess, the guys coach Gavin on saving his marriage. But it'll take a lot more than flowery words and grand gestures for this hapless Romeo to find his inner hero and win back the trust of his wife.
The Bromance Book Club is a romantic comedy about a married couple on the verge of divorce. It’s warm and humorous, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Gavin is blindsided by his wife’s revelation that she is unsatisfied in their marriage and wants a divorce. In a desperate attempt to fix things and win Thea back, he accepts some unconventional help from his macho guy friends. There are many funny moments—and some over the top ones—shared by the men as they study a regency romance novel for clues about how to relate to women.
Beneath all the fun, games, and whimsical plotting, there is an undercurrent of truth. Men and women speak different love languages and it makes it difficult for them to relate to each other. Gavin has to learn to effectively communicate with Thea and to honestly reflect on how they became so out of tune. The story isn’t all about a bumbling, clueless husband, however. Thea is a superb mom and a supportive wife, but she owns a piece of their dysfunctional marital pie. I’m glad she has opportunities to examine her own faults.
Gavin and Thea’s adorable twin girls are an added bonus to an already sweet story.
