Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is Things that make me instantly want to read a book.
Go-to Authors
There are a handful of authors whose books I will read without even glancing at the synopsis. They are tried and true authors who rarely let me down. Jewel E. Ann, Lucy Score, Colleen Hoover, Abby Jimenez, Penny Reid, and Aly Martinez are among them.
Goodreads Recommendations
I have friends on Goodreads who have similar tastes in books, so I always read their reviews and trust their recommendations. If enough of them are raving about a book, I’ll eventually succumb to FOMO.
Romance
I enjoy many genres, but romance is my favorite. I’m a sucker for a good love story with a happy ever after.
Spice, Spice, Baby!
Closed door/fade-to-black love scenes are all well and good, but sometimes I’m in the mood for some bow-chica-wow-wow. You know? And the spicier the better.
Single Parents
I’m drawn to stories featuring a single mom or dad who struggles to keep it all together while raising an adorable child—or even a surly one—alone. I’ll gobble up their story knowing they deserve happiness the most.
Gorgeous Covers
They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but a beautiful cover will instantly make me pick up a book. If I like the synopsis, I will read it.
Sports Romance
I don’t care what sport it is. If a book involves an athlete bitten by the love bug, count me in!
Favorite Narrators
I’m always looking for a good audiobook to occupy my time while commuting to and from work. If there’s an audiobook narrated by Erin Mallon, Zachary Webber, Julia Wheelan, or Jacob Morgan, I’m likely to grab it immediately.
Angst
I love stories that take me on an emotional roller coaster.
Small Towns
Books set in small towns often have quirky residents, which makes the stories even more entertaining.
All of these are great reasons to pick up a book!
These are all great! I especially love a small town setting (although I end up with unrealistic expectations of moving to one and finding myself welcomed by wonderful quirky characters) 🙂
Same! I have a feeling living in a small town isn’t quite as entertaining in real life.
Go-to authors and Goodreads Recommendations are the main ones for me too.
Love this. I’m a huge romance lover as well. Add a gorgeous looking cover and I’m already hooked. 😀
Thank you! I like to fill my bookcase with lovely covers as well.
