My name is Cassidy Porter...
My father, Paul Isaac Porter, was executed twenty years ago for the brutal murder of twelve innocent girls.
Though I was only eight-years-old at the time, I am aware - every day of my life - that I am his child, his only son.
To protect the world from the poison in my veins, I live a quiet life, off the grid, away from humanity.
I promised myself, and my mother, not to infect innocent lives with the darkness that swirls within me, waiting to make itself known.
It's a promise I would have kept...if Brynn Cadogan hadn't stumbled into my life.
Now I exist between heaven and hell: falling for a woman who wants to love me, while all along reminding myself that I must remain...
Unloved.
**NOTE: This book is intended for readers 18+**
Unloved serves up angst on a silver platter, which was perfect for me because I was in the mood for some heavy drama. This is not a warm and fuzzy story.
The son of a serial killer, Cassidy’s life of extreme isolation stems from his fear that he may have inherited his father’s sociopathic tendencies. The biological debate is thought provoking, and it is tragic the way Cass is forced to carry the burdens of his father’s sins. He hasn’t experienced human touch in over a decade.
Brynn has also become a recluse of sorts in the wake of personal tragedy. When Brynn enters Cassidy’s life, we get to view his minimalist off the grid lifestyle through her eyes and I was impressed by his survival skills. I felt very protective of Cass, so I was happy to see Brynn respond to his kindness with more curiosity than judgment. Removed from civilization, these two lonely people quickly grow close.
I enjoyed Cassidy and Brynn as a couple, and the book gets bonus points for originality. However, I didn’t care for the plot twist. It’s a bit of a cop-out. Cassidy’s musings also tend to be repetitive. Still, a 4-star read is nothing to sneeze at.

Great review! I’m hoping to read more of her books in 2020.
Hmm… I hadn’t heard of this book before. I love that cover. I might have read it only on that, but I think I will pass on this one. I’m not super into that blurb and you said she copped on the twist, so skip it is for me. Great review, though!
