“You say I’ll never own you. If I win—you willingly give me that right. You sign not only the debt agreement, but another—one that makes me your master until your last breath is taken. You do that, and I’ll give you this.”

Nila Weaver’s family is indebted. Stolen, taken, and bound not by monsters but by an agreement written over six hundred years ago, she has no way out.

She belongs to Jethro as much as she denies it.

Jethro Hawk’s patience is running out. His inheritance gift tests, challenges, and surprises him—and not in good ways. He hasn’t leashed her but he thinks he might’ve found a way to bind her forever.

Debts are mounting. Payment waiting.

2 stars, but should I be generous and give it 2.5?

I know, I know. I gave a rather scathing review of Debt Inheritance, so why on Earth did I read First Debt? Apparently I’m a glutton for punishment because I decided to give this book a chance when I saw it was available at the library. I figured I had nothing to lose except maybe some of my precious reading time, because…free. Oh, and it was the audio book version so…bonus! Read More

Review ♥ The Butterfly Project by Emma Scott

Review ♥ The Butterfly Project by Emma Scott

I liked this story about perseverance, acceptance, and forgiveness. You have two people burdened with guilt: one who is desperate for a chance at redemption; the other who accepts his life of hardship as penance. Zelda and Beckett are quite similar. In addition to living under a cloud of regret, they are both completely broke (and broken) and basically alone in NYC. After a chance meeting, they decide to join forces in a mutually beneficial financial arrangement.

Review ♥ If You Were Mine by Melanie Harlow

Review ♥ If You Were Mine by Melanie Harlow

I’m just going to rip this Band Aid off. Although I am terribly fond of Melanie Harlow, I was decidedly underwhelmed by If You Were Mine. The story of a perpetually lonely single woman hiring a handsome yet emotionally wounded man to be her wedding date appealed to me. I was fully onboard in the beginning, but shortly after the wedding I realized that things weren’t clicking for me.

Review ♥ Calculated in Death by J.D. Robb

Review ♥ Calculated in Death by J.D. Robb

In Calculated in Death, Eve, Roarke, Peabody and the rest of the gang are back to solve another case—this one involving the murder of a likeable accountant. The book gets off to a slow start, primarily due to the story being bogged down with too many similar suspects to keep straight, but things pick up considerably about one quarter of the way through. In fact, I’m pleased to say that although this is the thirty-sixth novel in the In Death series, it manages to regain a fresh feel.
