From bestselling author L.J. Shen, comes a new, standalone, contemporary romance.
It should have been easy.
I needed the money. He needed a babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death.
I was cherry-picked especially for him. Responsible. Optimistic. Warm. Innocent.
The worst part is that I should have known better.
Alex Winslow. British rock star. Serial heartbreaker. Casanova with whiskey eyes.
“Don’t get near the devil in a leather jacket. He’ll chew you up and spit you out.”
Guess what? I didn’t listen.
I signed the contract.
World tour. Three months. Four Continents. One hundred shows.
My name is Indigo Bellamy, and I sold my soul to a tattooed god.
Problem was, my soul wasn’t enough for Alex Winslow. He ended up taking my body, too.
Then he took my heart.
Then he took my all.
I’ve only recently discovered L.J. Shen’s work, but she is rapidly becoming one of my favorite authors. Midnight Blue is an epic enemies-to-lovers story that is every bit as absorbing as I expected.
Indie is one spunky young woman who has been massively punched in the face by life. She must live by the motto “never let them see you sweat” because her badass persona hides her vulnerability. It’s easy to sympathize with her from the very start, but she is so resilient, funny, and creative that I never pitied her.
Along comes rock god Alex, the author’s signature douche of massive proportions. I normally loathe alphaholes, but I’ve fallen in love with every single one that L.J. Shen has created. Alex is no exception. He’s cocky, jaded, downright cruel, and massively screwed up. He knows it. He just doesn’t care—that is, until Indie gets under his skin.
I’ve been sitting on this review for two days as I debated my rating. I desperately want to give this book 5 stars. It’s such a phenomenal tour de force that it literally (okay, figuratively) kills me to give it less than 5 stars. However, there is one major plot development that feels way too contrived—so much so that it yanked me out of the pretend world I was blissfully living in. I tried very hard to suspend disbelief, but I just couldn’t let it go completely. Every other aspect of the book is amazing, especially the depth of the characters and the intricacy of relationships.
I’d like to take a moment to bow down to L.J. Shen’s dynamic writing style. It’s witty, strikingly insightful, poetic, and impactful. I definitely recommend reading Midnight Blue. Just be prepared for a book hangover.
